Ayers Rock (Uluru)

Ayers Rock is within the Uluru national park and is located 478km s/w of Alice Springs. Ayers Rock is 345 metres high and 3.33 sq. kms. in area.
If you want to climb it, it takes about 3 hours going up and down.
I went with Contiki tours to visit Ayers Rock in December/January, and at that time of year it is very warm, with temperatures over 40 degrees each day. Consequently we departed early in the morning and started climbing at about 6:40am.
The previous day, I took a 30 minute flight (A$65) to view Ayers Rock and the Olgas, which gives an excellent view of the two.
Climbing Ayers Rock looks much easier than it actually is. You have to hold onto the chain rail and walk slowly, stopping every so often. At the top, the terrain is not flat as one might expect, but instead is undulating.
The final destination at the top is a direction marker at the top, showing arrows to various landmarks.
After taking pictures, one goes back down in the direction that one came.
