Annas
World
My husband
and I have travelled far and wide in this great country.
We visited Perth and surrounding miles, Adelaide, Coober Pedy, Alice
Springs, Ayers Rock, Cairns, Ipswich, Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney,
Canberra, Melbourne, Mt. Gambier, Murray Bridge, Tamworth (Country
Music Capital), Kingaroy, Marysborough, and lots of small towns
in between.
We've seen a fair bit of the landscape and met a number of great
people. These days it is harder to get away for extended stays and,
when visiting Australia, I recommend an extended stay!
You will hate to leave this land of stunning contrasts.
Here's a few tips when traveling in the Land of OZ - take them or
leave them, but they are "Fair Dinkum, Mate."
Don't forget to check out the sites on my Australian Travel Ring!
I was the first non-Australian non-commercial travel-related site
accepted.
I am an honorary citizen of South Australia, Newcastle, New South
Wales, and Ipswich, Queensland.
NOW is the best time to see the country with the current favorable
exchange rate you could tour the South Pacific and save a bundle!
There are so many wonderful specials going on that it would be a
shame not to take advantage of them.
If you see a CLUB - be it a sportsclub such as Bowls, Football,
RSL (Returned Servicemen’s League) or a Worker's Club - just pop
on in and register as a guest...you are legal if you live 50 miles
or more away! You will find great food at a great price, inexpensive
drinks, poker machines (a little like Vegas), and sometimes entertainment.
A surprising value and refreshing way to meet the locals.
There is one football club just on the western border of Sydney
(Parramatta City) that is fantastic! Stop there on your way to see
the Blue Mountains
In Sydney, near Queen Victoria Building (Shopping Mall), is a tiny
little RSL Club that will save you a bundle on meals.
Please DO NOT mention things which you have at home that you think
are so much better than what they have! Some cultures are not so
consumer driven as ours.
One bus driver told us that he had some Texans who bragged about
TEXAS and the USA during the entire 11 hour trip. Let THEM talk
about the USA ...you tell them how great Australia is!!!
Please be a considerate guest in their country!
If you are budget conscious...join the Youth Hostel in the USA and
stay in their facilities...the Melbourne, Cairns, and Scarborough
Beach (Perth) locations are excellent!
Check into the Bed and Breakfasts as well.
You might want to explore the hotel passes...they are a bargain
if purchased before you arrive. Contact the Australian Tourist Bureau
for information before you go. They have the best booklets and you
get a better feel for the area and what you should see and do.
There are customized tours you set up before you leave, if you know
exactly what you want to see. I recently helped a friend set up
a tour which should give her a great time in Australia at her own
pace and seeing the sites that interest her!
