Outback Travel

The track conditions in the Outback change frequently.
This is part of the beauty of that type of Adventure Tours and
adds to the thrill and challenges.
I just recently returned from two Simpson Desert Crossings and can again say that no two of these tours are the same.
We had an exceptional amount of rainfall late for that region, followed by several storms with more heavy rain. I had never before seen so many wild flowers in the Simpson, that late in the season.
On one occasion we were very lucky to leave Dalhousie Springs on the morning we did. Had we delayed our departure by one day we would have been stranded there for three days with the other 39 vehicles.
On the next tour a similar number of vehicles had to sit it out at Mungeranie along the Birdsville Track.
The moral of this story? Allow at least one day, better still two days at the end of such tours. That way you are less likely to miss your flight out of Alice Springs, Adelaide or wherever should there be a delay in reaching our destination.
With Outback Travel an exact arrival date can never be guaranteed!
Regards Mike.

White Water Rafting
Go rafting down grade 3 to grade 5 rapids through world heritage rainforest on a choice of 3 beautiful North Queensland rivers; the Tully River, the Barron River and the wild North Johnstone River.
White water rapids are graded internationally from 1 to 6 with grade 1 being a paddle in a puddle and grade 6 something like Niagara Falls in a barrel. Rafters must be at least 13 years old. Calm water rafting available too - minimum age is 6. It's not all white knuckles and hard slog, there are plenty of relaxing pools for a bit of a float and a dip and a chance to admire the forest and birdlife.
Tully River - rapids to grade 4 the perfect one day water experience
Barron River - rapids to grade 3 ideal introductory rafting through spectacular Barron Gorge North
Johnstone River - rapids to grade 5 (maximum possible for commercial rafting) the ultimate experience on 2 day and 5 day trips
Helicopter in to remote world heritage rainforest and raft out Rainforest camping, hiking to beautiful waterfalls included over 1 or 4 nights

ROCK CLIMBING
Rock climbing may not be everyone's idea of the ideal sport.. however, it is becoming very popular and it does take some skill.
If you live in Brisbane, you have all the rock climbing facilities you'll need to practice... right in the heart of the city!
The Kangaroo Point cliffs directly across the Brisbane river from the CBD, is an ideal climbing area. Anyone driving out of Brisbane at night over the Story Bridge can't help but admire the cliffs all lit up ...beautiful!
The Cliffs are approximately 20 metres high, and although easy enough distance to cover on foot, when you consider it vertically that's a little bit more challenging. Rock climbing in Australia is fast becoming a very popular sport as more people are getting out and about and enjoying the outdoors.
It is quite an easy sport and professional rock climbers believe it's one of the safest around... safer than crossing a road!
Weekly rock climbing sessions are held at the Kangaroo Point Cliffs and will cost you around $10. All the necessary equipment such as harnesses and ropes are supplied and the sessions normally run for about 4 hours.

Horseback Riding through Rainforest, along Beaches,
over Mountains and a Lot More...

A five day ride with pick up from Cairns, Port Douglas or the Atherton Tablelands including tents, mattresses, sheets, blankets, pillows, food, helmets etc will cost you $1000. If your group has 4 or more riders then the itinerary can be rearranged to suit you. Stretch Boyd your host describes a suggested 5 day itinerary.
